In the present study, we investigated the interactive effects of supervisor and situation-specific variables in understanding the effectiveness of subordinate impression management (IM) behaviors (i.e., self-promotion, ingratiation, and exemplification). Drawing from social/political influence theory, we argue that supervisor social astuteness moderates the relationships between subordinate IM tactics and supervisor reward recommendations, and that the moderation role of supervisor social astuteness in these relationships is a function of supervisor dependence on subordinate. Multisource data from 214 supervisor-subordinate dyads, collected at two time intervals from bank employees, revealed that reward recommendations of socially astute supervisors were less affected by subordinates' IM behaviors. However, when those socially astute supervisors were also dependent on subordinates, supervisors rated those IM behaviors favorably for reward recommendations. Implications and future research directions are discussed.

翁清雄,中国科学技术大学管理学院教授、博士生导师,组织与人力资源管理研究所负责人,工商管理系副主任。翁清雄教授是国家自然科学基金优秀青年基金获得者,主要研究方向为职业生涯管理、人才测评、情绪。
曾在比利时根特大学、澳大利亚昆士兰大学从事研究工作,在新加坡国立大学、美国明尼苏达大学访问交流。兼任管理学国际重要期刊Journal of Vocational Behavior副主编,Journal of Managerial Psychology、Journal of Career Development等期刊编委,安徽省创新与创业管理促进会副会长。曾在Journal of Organizational Behavior、Journal of Vocational Behavior、管理世界、管理科学学报等国内外期刊发表论文60余篇。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目、国际合作交流项目等国家级、省部级项目10余项。
